Mr. Nicolay,
I told the President this morning that the Regiment in which I had enlisted had not yet arrived and I would like a little active service. That I desired for myself that those who had balked should act. I am as willing to do the latter as the former. I desire to be called on at any time no matter what the danger or risk. I should consider it a favor just now to be placed in that position. Please remember I board at the National Hotel.
Yours,
C.H. Van Wyck
