Marshall L. Batsford
Batsford, age 19, enlisted Oct. 5, 1861, at Callicoon Depot as a sergeant, and was mustered into Co. L on Nov. 4, 1861. He reenlisted Feb. 20, 1864. He was promoted to first sergeant (no date given), second lieutenant of Co. F (May 31, 1864), first lieutenant of Co. L (June 28, 1864), and to captain (Nov. 1, 1864). Corp. Charles S. Billings, Co. L
Billings, 21, enlisted Oct. 5, 1861, at Callicoon Depot to serve three years. He was mustered in as a corporal Nov. 4, 1861, and was reduced to the ranks Feb. 2, 1863. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 20, 1864, and was mustered out with the regiment Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C. He gave his middle initial as "L." at that time.

Pvt. William Cochran, Co. L
Cochran, 21, enlisted at Callicoon Depot to serve three years and was mustered in Dec. 10, 1861. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 20, 1864, and was mustered out with the regiment Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C.

Pvt. George Cole, Co. L
Cole, 18, enlisted at Goshen to serve one year and was mustered in as a private Aug. 30, 1864. He was mustered out July 5, 1865, at Charleston, S.C.

Pulaski Francisco, Co. L Sharpshooters
Francisco, 24, enlisted at Callicoon Depot to serve three years and was mustered in as a private Dec. 10, 1861. He was promoted to corporal (no date given), reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 20, 1864, and was promoted to sergeant June 21, 1864. He was killed Dec. 7, 1864, in the Battle of Deveaux Neck, S.C. Pvt. Charles C. Williams, Co. L
Williams, 22, enlisted at Callicoon Depot to serve three years and was mustered in as a private March 1, 1862. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 20, 1864, and was mustered out with the regiment Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C.

Allen S. Rose, Co. L Sharpshooters
Note the green Tenth Legion "X" crest on his early issue New York State jacket. Dark green was one of the colors that didn't register well on the photographic plates of the period, hence its dark appearance. Rose, 21, enlisted at Callicoon Depot to serve three years and was mustered in as a private Dec. 10, 1861. He was promoted to corporal (date not given), and reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 20, 1864. He was mustered out (no date given) to accept a second lieutenant's commission in the 103rd U.S. Colored Troops. Before enlisting in the 56th, Rose served in Co. H, 28th N.Y. Volunteers.
