Charles Jennings, Cos. A, B

Jennings, 20, enlisted July 20, 1861, at Newburgh to serve three years and was mustered in as a private in Co. B on Aug. 17, 1861. He reenlisted as a veteran in Co. A on Feb. 16, 1864, and was mustered out Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C. Note shiny oilcloth rain cover on his forage cap. (from the Michael McAfee collection)

 

Calvin Lambert, Co. B

Lambert, 18, enlisted Aug. 15, 1861, at Newburgh to serve three years and was mustered in as a private the next day. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 29, 1864, was commissioned second lieutenant May 17, 1865, and was mustered out Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C.

Sgt. Joseph Lomas, Co. B

Lomas, 22, enlisted at Washington, D.C., where the regiment was stationed, to serve three years and was mustered in as a private on Feb. 1, 1862. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 29, 1864, was promoted to corporal July 13, 1864, and to sergeant Oct. 4, 1864. He was wounded in action at Dingle's Mills, S.C., on April 9, 1865, and had his right leg amputated. He was discharged Oct. 12, 1865, at Decamp Hospital, David's Island, New York Harbor.

 

William Newman, Co. B

Newman, 24, enlisted Aug. 12, 1861, at Newburgh to serve three years, and was mustered in as a private four days later. He was promoted to corporal (no date given) and reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 29, 1864. He died of brain fever July 13, 1864, at Beaufort, S.C. (from the Michael McAfee collection)

 

William Smith, Co. B

Smith, 21,enlisted Aug. 1, 1861, at Newburgh to serve three years and was mustered in as a private Aug. 16. He reenlisted as a veteran Feb. 29, 1864, and was mustered out Oct. 17, 1865, at Charleston, S.C.   Note the veteran's stripes on his jacket and the non-regulation civilian hat. Pvt. Edward Van Vlick, Co. B

Van Vlick, 21, also borne as Van Vleat, enlisted at Goshen to serve one year and was mustered in as a private Aug. 13, 1864. He died April 1, 1865, of chronic diarrhea at Charleston, S.C.
